...SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY... Low pressure system off the coast with unstable southerly flow over the region. Scattered thunderstorms are expected over central and northeast Oregon during the afternoon and evening hours with little if any thunderstorm activity overnight. ...RED FLAG WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM PDT WEDNESDAY FOR ABUNDANT LIGHTNING FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES OR611 AND OR640...

* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 611 Deschutes National Forest -minus Sisters Ranger District and 640 Central Mountains of Oregon.

* IMPACTS...Numerous lightning starts will be possible owing to the potential for scattered storms after a period of hot and dry conditions. Additionally, gusty winds and low relative humidity values will prevail through Wednesday. Extremely hot temperatures and low RH conditions will follow this weekend into early next week.

* THUNDERSTORMS...LAL of 3, storms capable of LAL 4 possible.

* OUTFLOW WINDS...Gusts of 25 to 30 mph possible with gusts to 45 mph in stronger thunderstorms.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

NWS Medford (Southwest Oregon and Northern California)

...Abundant Lightning Expected Wednesday Afternoon and Evening... .Low pressure centered southwest of the area will send a series of disturbances into the area from the southeast. Scattered thunderstorms on dry fuels are expected over much of western Siskiyou County and along the Siskiyou mountains in fire weather zones 280 and 621. Isolated storms will be expected over a wider portion of Southern Oregon and Northern California. While isolated storms will produce wetting rainfall, significant lightning on dry fuels is expected. ...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM TO 8 PM PDT WEDNESDAY FOR ABUNDANT LIGHTNING ON DRY FUELS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 280 AND 621... ...RED FLAG WARNING FOR TODAY HAS EXPIRED FOR ABUNDANT LIGHTNING ON DRY FUELS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 280 AND 621...

* Impacts: Lightning and high fire danger will likely result in new fire starts. Gusty thunderstorm winds could contribute to fire spread. Despite rainfall, initial attack resources could be overwhelmed and holdover fires are possible.

* Affected area: In Northern CA Fire Zone....280, including the Klamath National Forest, Marble Mountains, Scott Bar Mountains and the communities of Happy Camp, Seiad Valley, Etna, and Fort Jones. In Southwest OR Fire Zone....621, including the Siskiyou Mountains and Rogue River National Forest.

* Wind: Gusty and erratic wind gusts to 40 mph are possible in and near these thunderstorms.

* Thunderstorms: Isolated dry thunderstorms are possible, but most are likely to produce at least some rainfall.

* Additional Information: Additional lightning is anticipated in Northern California Thursday afternoon and evening which might result in the need for additional watches or warnings.
