MEDFORD, Ore. -- This week's Amateur Athlete highlights Southern Oregon's own, AJ Pugliano and his commitment to play football at the University of Oregon.
Pugliano announced his commitment to play at UO on Monday after getting offers from Washington State, Arizona and Oregon State.
The North Medford tight end is the number 2 player in Oregon in the class of 2024 and the first one to commit to a university to play football.
Pugliano said the decision to play at Oregon was an easy one because it meant he would get to play in front of the people who watched him develop into the player he is now.
"I know it's in my blood that I'm gonna do well at Oregon, playing for people and in front of people who have watched me grow up. It also adds a factor that makes it bigger than football."
Pugliano's talent is what got him noticed to play football in college but North Medford head coach, Nathan Chin said it's the type of teammate that he is that makes him standout even more.
"When you talk to him, he has an awesome personality. And when you have a person like that it can bring this really great positive vibe to a group of people and he definitely is that us for us."
Pugliano is excited to get started at Oregon but knows that he has finish strong in high school first.
