Oregon Football hires Georgia DC Dan Lanning as next head coach

EUGENE, Ore--- After a very rough several days for Oregon Football that saw the exit of head coach Mario Cristobal, the Ducks have a new head coach. Oregon will hire Georgia defensive coordinator, Dan Lanning, according to several reporters surrounding Oregon Football.

Rumor began circulating on Friday, when the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Lanning was to be hired this coming Monday. However, multiple reporters from Oregon came forward saying that report was inaccurate. One day later, it became official.

Lanning is 35-years-old. He became Georgia's defensive coordinator in 2019. In 2021, the Bulldogs lead the nation in scoring, are second in total defense, and third in run and pass defense.

Georgia will also be a part of the College Football Playoff in January, after being the No. 1 team in the nation over a majority of the 2021 season.

Lanning's hire could be crucial in Oregon retaining the impressive recruiting classes Mario Cristobal recruited. Cristobal also came from the SEC and installed a new blue print for the Ducks.

Oregon and Georgia will face each other to open the 2022 season. The Ducks and Bulldogs will play in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff on September 3, 2022.

NewsWatch 12 Sports is continuing to learn more about his hire. This article will be updated as more information comes in.
