MEDFORD, Ore. — Local football and basketball players got the surprise of a lifetime when they turned at the end of a sports camp at Kids Unlimited to see Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. walking towards them.

The kids in the camp reacted with screams, shouts and disbelief as one of the most well-known NFL players in the world walked towards them.

"I was in the huddle and I turned around and I was like, 'Oh!,'" Samuel Reyes, one of the campers, said. "I see him and it's OBJ."

Beckham Jr. spoke with the campers and posed for pictures as he was surrounded by kids of all ages. He shook hands and laughed as some of the campers like Reyes recounted times they watched his on-field accomplishments in awe.

South Medford head football coach Bill Singler told the camp and OBJ when he was a college receiver at Stanford he made a one-handed catch in the endzone much like the famous one-handed touchdown grab Beckham Jr. made in 2014.

"Before there was OBJ there was Bill," Singler said with a smile on his face, recounting a catch he made in 1974 as a wide receiver for Stanford, 40 years before Beckham Jr.

Among the other southern Oregon stars there were Chad, Chase, and Carson Cota. The former, an eight-year strong safety in the NFL and his two sons, Chase and Carson. Chase is a senior wide receiver at UCLA and Carson is set to join the University of Arizona football program this fall.

Beckham Jr.'s appearance was part of a partnership with Kids Unlimited and Royal Coffee Roasting. The coffee chain is soon to be adding stores in the Medford area but has been doing all of its coffee roastings in a southern Oregon facility. Part of Royal Coffee Roasting's mission is part of its profits go towards "helping support children through nutrition and educational resources."
