leader, or moment of inspiration ... they often look to one of the team's stars. the s-o-u football team has an unlikely hero. newswatch 12's cameron derby caught up with cornerback cente borja who is this week's amateur athlete. [g6]am ath: cente borja-pkg he is not the immediate starter. he is not the 5-star "he is dedicated to himself, and to his family, and to for souther oregon university, but he is fighting for a what they call "a spot on the bus." the right to travel with the team. knowing that he most likely won't be a starter this season, has not held back his work ethic. but every hero has reason to inspire. cente's is not found in just one spot. "i want to bring my family, and my name, and my island, you know up to the top where we are noticed. everything is just for them. i don't do much of it for me. i do put me last and my family first." cente was born in guam, but moved to the united states with his aunt and uncle, just 3 days before his 9th birthday. he was certainly not happy about the move when it happened. family circumstances caused his 10 siblings to be spread around in different locations. he supports and loves all of them. enough to work from 3:30 in the afternoon, to two a-m after practice. all that to send money to his family. "if you are looking at it from your perspective, if you need help, what are you going to do? you are going to ask. so, i do it as much as i can. when i can't it hurts so bad. i will do the extra work. i will go." after playing at north medfrod, cente ended up at sou. as a 2nd string player, he is still one of the loudest on the team. "pass. ball."" he will continue to work for that travel spot in the near future. in the process, he keeps those starters grinding hard. they know he is right behind them, biting at their heels. "i am just going to go around and try to make sure that my capabilites are at their highest. i want to compete for them, i want to be compete for my brothers, at my highest potential." cameron derby, newswatch 12 sports you can be entered to win a pair of tickets
