in ys, "right now, i'm at evergreen elementary in yreka. students and staff here are getting ready for the first day of school. tomorrow around 8am students will be lining up to go inside." krista says, "i'm more ready than i should be, i'm so excited i'm not going to be able to sleep tonight." this is krista freeze's third year teaching kindergarten. this year she has 25 students. "every year is just so different and i'm excited to see who they are and what they look like and how they interact and what their background is. i don't know it'll be so cool." her favorite part: watching the kids grow throughout the year. "by the time they leave they know how to read and write and spell and it's really it's just a really cool process." now for mom the first day of school memories ... where mom and dad are left at the front door of the classroom crying... but the teachers here want you to know: your babies are in good hands. "it's a big responsibility leaving your child with somebody and i take that really seriously." beth sandahl has been teaching for 21 years. "i try to be really prepared like if armageddon happens tomorrow, i'm prepared, i have your phone number and i have your kid and i'm ready." her focus for tomorrow ... make sure all her first graders have a fun day.
