caitlin harvey "welcome back to newswatch 12 midday. here's a live look at klamath falls." today: clear skies this morning will lead to strong sunshine this afternoon. the chetco effect in brookings will peak today with brookings pushing the lower 80s with highs into the 70s further up the coast thanks to gusty offshore winds. inland areas can expect abundantly sunny skies this afternoon with highs into the 80s for much of the region. winds will pick up for this evening's drive home west of the cascades, up to 20 mph in siskiyou county and the rogue valley and up to 35 mph along the coast. a gale warning remains in effect for the will climb between 8-13 feet. recreational boaters are strongly encouraged to stay in port. tonight: winds will be a bit breezy into the evening with clearing skies. temperatures will be cool tonight under clear skies, dropping into the lower to middle 50s in our westside valleys and northern california, with areas east of the cascades falling into the 40s. extended: heading into the weekend, it will be sunny and hotter throughout the region. highs will climb into the 90s in our westside valleys with highs in the upper 80s to around 90 in the klamath basin. these much hotter and above-average temperatures look to continue into the start of next week. we're keeping things dry for now, but we may have to monitor thunderstorm chances for the cascades and areas east of the cascades late in the weekend an into early next week. temperatures will cool back down a bit for a couple of days through midweek then start heating up again to end the next workweek. two studies published this week in the medical journal 'jama' talk about cannabis use during pregnancy. one study by national institutes of health shows an increase in the number of two studies published this week in the medical journal
