The Josephine County Sheriff's Office created a new program where teenagers can become certified Search and Rescue Members.

or ski cap. teens will actually be able to go out on real searches. newswatch 12's ashley tsao joins us live from josephine county right now. how can teens sign up for this program? good morning. the search and rescue explorer program is part of the josephine county sheriff's office. i'm standing in front of that office right now. one of the best things about this program is that teens don't have to pay a penny. all of the trainings and equipment will be free. there are about twenty explorer members right now. teens will have pass state requirements to become certified search and rescue members. those requirements include becoming cpr certified, learning about first aid, and training in search and survival techniques. once students finish training, they can officially go out on searches. each search is evaluated to see if its safe for teens. when explorers are out on a search, they'll be supervised. josephine county's search and rescue team has a long history. one searcher who has volunteered for over three decades says teens will learn more than survival skills. you have a lot of heart. you know what it's like. especially if you go out on a search and you're looking for a, whether it be an adult or a child, you bring them back safely you can just see the whole family light up. you know you've done a good job. and again, it makes you feel good right here. the next search and rescue explorer open house will be this thursday. from six to eight p.m. at josephine county search and rescue on tech way. in about fifteen minutes i'll explain how you can support these students. reporting live in grants pass, ashley tsao, newswatch 12. today the house is
