in take a look at this map. you can see that construction is going to start on east 8th street. near bear creek. it'll continue through east main street to portland avenue. ashley tsao joins us from east main street right now. is this going to affect traffic in the area? good morning. right now i'm near the intersection of hawthorne and east main street. i want to emphasize that these roads right beside me are only going to have lane closures. not road closures. that means traffic will still flow in both directions. but if this is part of your daily commute to work, it might get a little bit more congested. this part of east main street is expected to get an asphalt overlay. today, construction is set to start at eight thirty in the morning and end at four in the afternoon. it is expected to last for a week. construction workers will be putting down a new two inch layer of asphalt all along the road. they'll also be grinding down the edge of the road next to the curb. that lets them make sure the entire road is the same color. these lane closures can get confusing. and city officials say they want to remind everyone to drive carefully. well first of all, they shouldn't be going fast in a work zone. there will be advance road work ahead signs. there will be all the appropriate traffic control devices. the important thing is that drivers pay attention and obey those traffic control devices. city officials told me that it's typical to do this kind of road work in the summer. they expect this new asphalt to last for about fifteen years. i'll tell you about how some businesses along this street feel about the construction in just a bit. reporting live on east main street, ashley
