southern oregon will have to south medford high school, the southwest conference, and basketball fans across southern oregon will have to wait another year for the arrival of donovyn hunter. the middle school basketball phenom that's already drawn interest from major division one universities tore her acl back in april while practicing with her aau team. she's now been ruled out for the entirety of the 2019-2020 season. hunter says, "stole the ball and it was just one on one and i was just going to the hoop and as soon as i was about to go up, my knee just grinded against each other i guess and i just fell and that was that trainer told me it was just mri and it was worse." hunter had surgery to repair her acl and meniscus at the start of the month, and now embarks on the rehab process... physical therapy two times a week with a recovery timeline between nine months and a year and a half. she was just a few months away from bursting onto the high school scene... so a discouraging break for one of the top rated girls basketball players in the country. the decision to hold her out her freshman year.. done with the goal of protecting her this year and let her recover, rebuild, train on the side and get back into playing but not at the level she was yet. certainly not in competition because everything goes up with competition." her physical therapist said there's no indication at this point that donovyn won't return to her previous level of play. i'll have more on her rehab process this thursday in newswatch 12's amateur
