Paragliders fill the sky in the Rogue Valley

The Applegate Open is a week-long paragliding competition that attracts paragliders from around the world.

applegate open features paragliders from around the world. in a week long competition, racers compete to traverse the different courses set around the rogue valley. like a colorful flock of birds, the paragliders fill the southern oregon sky. destino stellavem says, "basically for a few hours of every day that you fly, you are completly a bird, you're no longer in the human realm of dealing with your taxes, your family stuff, your job or anything. you're just in this zone where you're thinking like a bird and you're pushing the human expereince and human limits to its highest." pushing the human limits to heights of over 7,000 feet in the air as paragliders take to the skys. they take off from woodrat mountain in ruch and hit various g-p-s points throughout the rogue valley. the applegate open attracts racers from all different backgrounds and age groups. at the young age of 74 and a half to the day, "i've had my longest flight which i mentioned was 2 hours and 17 minutes which is huge for me. i started out i couldn't fly longer than 20 minutes and that was 5 years ago. and now i'm up to 2 hours and 17 minutes and i'd like to do more." and nolan is adament that anyone can join him and his paragliding friends in the air. all it takes is a little motivation. nolan says, "however, if you're willing to spend the time and mostly effort to learn the knowledge, skills and exercise good judgement it's very rewarding and i see no barriers to anyone that wants to get in, including age." for many of the paragliders, there is no greater feeling of freedom then when they're soaring across beautiful landscapes. stellavem can't think of any better way to become one with nature. stellavem says, "there's basically no more amazing way i can think of to fully explore the biosphere. you become part of the atmosphere. it's magical, it's this great mystery tour that we're on today when they landed at longsword vineyard. waiting for them there were friends, family and food. you can wake up and win with newswatch 12 this
