[a17]champion reaction-live intro the board tells me many great people applied for this position but ultimately decided dr. champion was the right fit for medford. the chair says he has great communication skills and decades of experience in public education. [a18]champion reaction-pkg nats standing ovation months of a very private search for the medford school district's next superintendent came to a close tonight. with the board unanimously choosing dr. bret champion, the current superintendent of a school district in texas. nats "absolutely" "wright" "yes" "motion carries" superintendent dr. brian shumate announced he would be leaving the district back in february. since then, the board has been on the hunt for the district's next leader. board chair cynthia wright says dr. champion is the perfect person to continue what shumate started. cynthis says: "i think that dr. champion is going to be doing a lot of listening, a lot of observing, seeing where we're at and what our needs are. he's very collaborative so he's going to want to bring the community together and determine the new goals for the years that come." south medford high school's principal was involved in a small part of the search. he says dr. champion's focus on every student succeeding will help take the district to its next level of success. donnie says: "i look forward to doing the work we do for individual kids and working together at every level. having the support at the district office to do the things we need to do at the schools and support kids and families in our community." the board says in his first couple of months as superintendent, dr. champion will be getting to know students, families, and of course, the staff. cynthia says: "we wanted somebody people could follow."
