in oregon-llpkg leah says "im in downtown medford and behind me this is vogel plaza. now you can hear men and women chanting and holding signs behind me. they are protesting the legislation that's in alabama and in missouri right now that has to do with abortion." nat today people brought their signs. and their umbrellas... to protest abortion bans happening across the country. chant this group of people believes in pro-choice. meaning someone should have the choice to do what they want to their bodies. one of the pro choice supporters is 18 year old violet smith. she has a specific reason she came out to protest today. smith says i'm a survivor of sexual assault and the fact that they are goign specfically after rape survivors to make them feel like they have no option is what really gets to me the most." smith is talking about the legislation in missouri and alabama that would not allow abortions even if someone was raped. smith says that could have been me. when we look at oregon and california. our abortion laws are very different then missouri and alabama. oregon has some of the least restrictive abortion laws in the country. a pregnant woman in oregon can get an abortion at any point. an immigrant can get an abortion in oregon. and most of the time abortions are paid for in oregon because of state funding. in california minors do not need parental consent for an abortion. most abortions are paid for in california again because of state funding. but in california you can not get an abortion once the fetus is viable. which is usually around week 22 to 24. on the thinks abortion should be wouldn't even neccasraily abortion is acceptable in website
