6-stinger new at 6 -- spaalicia says: the 20 sparrows throughout southern oregon but this one is unique because it all happened because of five 6th grade girls that reached out and said they wanted to help someone in need. nats: cheering "i'm calling these girls the sparrow squad" betzy and maritza started a snowball effect at kennedy elementary school. they called sparrow clubs in january saying that they wanted to have a sparrow at their school. now just four months later ... nats: cheering their elementary school surpassed their service goal of 290 hours and even donated extra gifts to their sparrow -- everyly -- through a penny drive. nats: "swim cover a hat sunglasses and then a $300 gift card to target everly has cystinosis -- a rare metabolic disease -- her body doesn't rid her cells of sistine. haven says: "it affects literally every organ in her body -- her vision ... and then she also is in kidney failure she was diagnosed at 9 months old. kevin says: it's been a really life-changing experience ... this last year has been hard for us ... we've been through a lot in a short amount of time and so it's nice to see all these kids come together and help this little girl." if you ask the students -- the biggest impact -- was made through service. nats: "raise your hand if you helped out or if you did some service for your sparrow" maritza says: "it makes me think of all the good things that you can do in life" matt says: "this is from a six grader it says "what this means to me is every time i wanted to give up i 'what if that was my baby brother'. this made me feel like i could do anything ... thank you for the chance." alicia says: it's pretty easy to see the impact of sparrow clubs, not only the impact on the family that's receiving the help but also on the kids that donate [a36]sparrow club wrap up-tag everly received 2-hundred and 60 thousand
