jake: a medford athlete won a gold medal at the pan jiu-jitsu championships in irvine... the biggest brazilian jiu jitsu tournament in north america. but patrick leiser's story gets even better ... because a gold medal at the world championships in august and he'll be ranked the number one blue belt in the world in his division. a gold medal in march has put was able to get the gold medal." a gold medal in august and he'd be on top of the world. patrick says, "i don't take this lightly and i know that the competition is going to be the best in the world." after claiming gold in the ultra heavyweight division of the pan jiu-jitsu championship, leiser now turns his attention to the world championship.... winning that would make him the number one blue belt in the world. so for the next four months, he sets out to train for the las vegas event. doing so under brazilian jiu- jitsu guru and medford-based pete loncarevich. pete says, "he's just one of these dedicated students that i love to train. and he's self motivated, so i just guide him and he does all the work and takes all the credit." patrick says, "i'm expecting to dominate and i was able to look at the areas that i need more improvement in and we're going to be concentrating on those areas." areas that include takedowns or simply working the match to the ground... because that's where patrick goes to work. pete says, "if he could wrestle himself when he first came in, it wouldn't be a fair match because patrick is a very strong guy and a fast learner." patrick leiser... a real estate broker by day... a wwe wrestler back in the day... now a jiu-jitsu rising star, and a spot atop his division's world rankings is in plain sight. in medford, jake garcia, newswatch 12 sports. turning now to stormwatch 12 chief meteorologist matt
