ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A dispute between drivers apparently began in downtown Roseburg around noon on Sunday. It ended with 53-year-old Edward Lanier dead. He was killed after a shootout on Interstate 5 near exit 123, where the victim's car hopped a curb. Police say 3 cars were actually seen driving west on Harvard avenue, then getting on I-5 southbound before the shooting. One man says he was on his way home from a grocery store whenhe saw Lanier's car up on the curb. Jason Green says, "Just assumed it was okay. Then ended up coming home, checked it out more -- I live up the hill here. I'd say probably five to seven officers with assault rifles rolled up, and that was when I realized it was probably not somebody just having a heart attack. It was probably something more serious, and it was a pretty scary feeling." Oregon State Police are still looking for the person that fired shots at Lanier. If you have any information, you are asked to call OSP.
