klaays, "cody is at the competition tonight...and says he's nervous, but excited for it to begin tomorrow." nats of cody yelling while throwing ladder ladders...ropes... knots...and hoses.... those are some of the events cody silani is competing in this weekend. nats of him tying knots ben says, "he is a very motivated young individual, eager to learn ...which is what we need firefighters were motivated dedicated and want to learn and love the job and that's what he is." ben kennedy is a captain with fire district three. he's been training cody for 3 months for this competition. cody is a senior at eagle point high school....and a volunteer with lake creek rural fire district. cody says, "i used to do boy scouts and my passion was in the community. i've done so many community service hours i wanted to find something that was really based in the community." he found firefighting ...and it's become his passion. stephanie says, "i know that it's something he's passionate about because that's all he lives and breathes right now is firefighting." stephanie is cody's mom. she says she worries about him when he goes out on calls with lake creek...but knows this is his calling. cody says, "seeing those peoples reactions once we help them out is really rewarding." the skills u-s-a competition starts tomorrow...and ends on saturday. but cody hopes his firefighting career... extends for a lifetime. he plans to head to r-c-c when he graduates high school to study fire science. stephanie says, "we're super proud of him and if he chooses to do completely committed 110% and he's been that way his whole life." and the folks back at district 3...are cheering him on. ben says, "obviously we want him to go up there to compete we told him he's not there to participate we want him to place number one but he's a great kid and it's a great learning opportunity for him." rachel says, "we'll be sure to keep you updated as his competition continues. in white city, rachel tiede, tonight
