Supporters have a long list of reasons why "goats" could be the answer to preventing wildfires in southern Oregon this year.

ussell has been the owner of hungry goats 4 hire for about 8 years, bringing these guys to properties all over the region so they can eat up basically anything growing there. he says goats are a much better and safer option than herbicides or burning." "they eat and they eat and they eat." eating machines that might as well be put to work. that's what ern russell believes. "they love blackberries they love wild roses." he's been renting his goats to do what they do best as a way to get rid of invasive weeds. "the goats will go in there and just munch away." his goats have munched away all over the region. he's taken them to medford before but says getting approval from city council was a bit of a hassle. but that could soon change. tonight - council members will look at cities that have made a goat grazing program work.. like salem and dubuque, iowa. they'll consider whether or not permits would be required and what those permits would be. some other things to consider are the use of electric fences to keep the goats in.. when and where they could graze. and who monitors them while they're eating away. russell says the animals bring several advantages. "one it's quieter, two it's usually cheaper." and they can get up and down steep and rugged terrain that machines can't. he hopes council members realize the potential and move forward.
