[a14]first weather-wx center today: we are seeing widespread rain and snow work its way into the region region to drop quickly throughout the day. moderate precipitation will help drag those snow levels down. snow levels will reach the significant snow is expected in our higher elevations with over 12-24" expected through the cascades and siskiyous with locally higher amounts. several inches will fall for our lower passes, such as the sexton summit and hayes westside valleys, we will likely see a changeover from rain to snow saturday with accumulations up to 1-3" on the valley floor. totals will go up though into the storm will likely have significant impacts to travel for southern oregon and northern california. when we talk about snow levels and which elevations will cities elevations are. [a16]region elevations-fs most of the towns in siskiyou county are above 25-hundred foot elevation. happy camp is at 16-hundred feet. the city of mt. shasta, yreka, montague, and weed are all above 25- hundred. the cascades and the klamath basin are all above 25-hundred feet. prospect and butte falls are the lowest elevation in that region at around 25-hundred. lakeview, klamath falls, and most of the cities in the basin are in the 4-thousand foot range. [a18]region elevations-fs roxy ann is at 35-hundred feet. jacksonville hill up highway 238 is just over 2-thousand feet. the city of jacksonville itself is at 15-hundred feet. places like medford and shady cove are all below 14- hundred feet. grants pass is one of the lowest in our region at 960 feet. you can find the and delays. two flights were cancelled yesterday at the rogue valley international medford airport. you can find the link to check airport delays on our website. just head to click on the weather tab at the top of your screen. on the right hand side you'll weather links. just click on the one for medford airport. it will take you to the flight information page to check on flight statuses. we stopped by the medford airport and asked them what factors in to a cancelled or delayed flight due to weather. [a23]airport impacts of snow-sotvo "it just really depends on the weather. if the weather stops, or their is a break in the weather and they can gethe runway clear, it can open up. but delays, cancellations maybe." the airport recommends checking in as early as possible for your flight to start getting updates. jackson county only has about 67% of the snow that it usually has this time of year. how much water that's in the snow is just one of the things that's measured during the snow survey. jackson county scientists can use that information to determine how much will run off into the reservoir and streams in the warmer months. it can help the county plan how much drinking water a city will have. the county watermaster says jackson county's measurement has been accurate over the years. "the history of the snow survey has it's roots in lake tahoe and it has been determined there's a strict correlation between the snowpack and run off in the later months." this month, the snow was measured at about 40% density. the more dense, the higher the water content. the jackson county watermaster says that just because the snow is deep, doesn't mean its water content is high. callahan's lodge sa but they still prepare in case the siskiyou pass ever shuts down. the lodge says they will have people come to their lodge if they can't make it over the pass...hoping for a hot meal or a place to stay. the lodge's president, says everyone is welcome. the lodge is usually full, but they'll offer cots for people who find themselves unexpectedly stranded. she says if the families choose to spend the night on the cots, they'll be in the common areas in the lodge. the sheriff's office says a young florida woman was headed to the coast when her gps pointed her this direction. the road is usually closed this time of year because of snow drifts. drivers pass these signs pointing out the dangers. sheriff daniel says the woman either ignored them or didn't see them. her car went off the road and got stuck in a foot of snow. miraculously - she was still in cell phone range and called 9-1-1. a forest service deputy was able to help the woman get her car back on the road and followed her down the mount. on thursday of this week a utility worker found a body at the bottom of an embankment in the area of eddy creek road. the autopsy indicated the death was a homicide. the dead man is 31 year old hunter simms from texas. a vehicle linked to simms has been recovered near the scene of the incident and is being examined by investigators. the california department of justice is working with local law enforcement in the investhe jackson county sheriffs office got a call around 10:00 last night. the caller said a woman was in a car trying to commit suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. the caller saw a young child in the car with her. the woman drove away. police were able to eventually track her down. 49-year-old kyla duncan and the child were taken to the hospital for treatment. they've both been released. the child is with family. duncan is now in the jackson county jail. her charges are two counts of attempted murder in the first degree. [a31]420 bill the senator introduced senate bill 420 into legislation yesterday. the bill would give states the opportunity to make it legal without fearing federal criminal intervention. senator wyden said "too many economic opportunities have been missed" by not legalizing marijuana. the proposal would remove federal criminal penalties for individuals and businesses acting in compliance with state marijuana laws. it would also reduce barriers for legal marijuana businesses to get access to banking. s at the newswatch 12 at 4:00. medford fire rescue says a call came in saying there was an explosion followed by a fire. crews were able to keep the fire contained to the garage and the attic space above it. coming up on newswatch 12 this morning... if you love coke they are launching a new flavor that will hit stores next month. plus the siskiyou film fest will be back for it's 17th year this sunday. we will tell you where you need to be and when.
