In both Baja and Formula 1 divisions, Oregon Tech has an unprecedented program for a small, public university, which competes on an international stage every year.

oregon tech, engineering doesn't stay in the classroomsometimes, it extends to the track auddie says, "we design and build 100 percent of this car other than the few parts that we buy off the shelf, which are the shocks and the engine." 15 years ago, o-i-t associate dean for college of engineering, technology & management, brian moravec, took over and the program took off moravec says, "i worked at boeing, i had worked in the industry for 10 years before i came to teach here and i wanted us to move up to a higher level." the school builds baja and formula one cars every year and compete against schools from all over the world auddie says, "there's schools from china, abu dhabi, mexico, canada, all over." and corporate america has its eyes on the students involved moravec says, "companies like boeing and intel and nike " as the years have gone on, using lessons from the past, the car designs continue to improve auddie says, "they get smaller and smaller and lighter and lighter and they've gotten faster and faster every year." they take skilled drivers to man themand at the end of the day, people thaare simply willing to drive them at all auddie says, "the only requirement is that you aren't a danger to yourself or others and that you sign the waiver." it's no small time commitment auddie says, "for the number of hours, it's like another part-time job, if not a full-time job." but at the end of the day the passion for engineering and need for competition makes it all worth it auddie says, "a) i love engineering and b) i love race cars, so you combine those two together, this is staying on the campus of oregon tech, it's a
