Southern Oregon farmers and ranchers who haven't been able to prepare for tax time because of the government shutdown are finally catching a break.

shutdown-llpkg emma says, "for the first time in weeks the doors here at the usda office in klamath falls are open, but if you do plan on stopping by in the next few days, you won't see too many workers here and there's only a few things they can help you with." a workplace that normally has a handful of people. today has just one. the office has been dark for weeks. workers didn't even have a chance to put away the christmas decorations before learning they were furloughed. "we are looking forward to being able to get back to business." now - the doors are open, but it's not for good. "just three days, so it'll be today the 17th, tomorrow the 18th and tuesday the 22nd as the 21st is a federal holiday." county executive director laura hall says workers can only help farmers with existing loans. "if you are wanting a new loan, then you can request some information but processing is not happening at this point, but we will be able to process once we get going again." she says it's important to remember the office can only help out with a small scope of what they normally could. workers won't be able to help farmers with disaster assistance programs or the margin protection program for dairy. she encourages anyone with questions to give the office a call. it will be open tomorrow and tuesday. in klamath falls, emma balkenbush, newswatch 12. the klamath falls office is the only one in southern oregon to re-
