atch 12's emma balkenbush joins us now live where the crash happened. she tells us more about these new developments and what family members are remembering about the man was 26 year old richard drew wilson from eagle point. his family tells me he went by 'drew.' osp says he was trying to cross interstate 5 in this area when a car hit him. his family is shocked he's gone. they describe him as an amazing man who would give someone the shirt off his back. "he had a giant heart, and the best smile and laugh." an amazing father of two beautiful children who whose smile lit up any room. that's how family members describe drew wilson. "drew was an incredibly intelligent man. he could have been anything he wanted to be." but family members tell me he was fighting an uphill battle against mental illness and addiction. early this morning - osp says he was trying to cross interstate 5 near the central point exit. troopers say the darkness combined with dense fog made it difficult for drivers to see. they say wilson was hit by a car headed north and pronouned dead at the scene. family members say he was recently homeless and couldn't get help. "there was no help, there was no help, and it's really sad." his mother says the tragedy would have been avoided had he gotten the help he needed. she's devastated about her son's death. and heartbroken for the driver involved. "i really do want her to know how absolutely sorry i am that she had to go through this too." she says her family is praying for the driver and hoping she can move on without any guilt. she hopes when people think of her son - they remember his bright smile and contagious joy.
