mpson is live on summit right now in ashland. and leah when the pass does close how does that impact ashland? brian this evening i spoke to one resturant that is right off of exit 14. she says when the pass closes everyone files into the nearby hotels and resturants including the one she manages. two line kate kuhn bartender/manager at oak tree northwest right off of exit 14 in ashland you'll see a variety of hotels and restaurants. when the sisikyou summit closes this is the last exit people can get off. and these are the hotel and restaurant options people have to choose from. kate kuhn says "this is the one that closes. because after that it's usually a chain up area." kate coon is a bartender and manager at oak tree northwest in ashland. she has worked at the restaurant for the past six years. so every time the pass shuts down it's all hands on deck kate says "busy yeah" the summit only closes about one or two times a year, but for ashland that brings in some economy after loosing so much because of the lasting smoke season. "i mean that's the hope anyway ." i asked kate if people are normally normally they have to strike up a conversation first. kate says "you seat somebody, you ask them how they are doing and usually that stimulates a conversation ugh i'm really stressed the pass is closed and hopefully we get them a good drink and some food and they are feeling better." so if you are traveling to northern california this winter and get stuck in ashland there's plenty of restaurants like oak tree northwest and hotels that will keep you warm until it reopens.
