her with a knife. newswatch 12's mike duffy is at the scene of where that attack too place. we are that's right brian. this happened here around 4 in the afternoon on sunday just a few blocks away from what you'd call the heart of downtown grants pass. that perpetrator is now charged with assault, strangulation and anlawful use of a weapon. "i think it's unfortunate that something like this happens here, but it doesn't surprise me." ann james wasn't surprised to hear about the assault that happned just feet away from her workplace on sunday night. a woman was attacked from behind by a masked man. he punched the victim in the face and tried to steal her phone. according to the police report, the two of them fell to the ground and the perpetrator pressed his forearm down on her throat. "there was a charge of strangulation due to the fact that the suspect had held her down by her throat and inhibited her ability to breathe." police learned about the attack as the victim was being treated in the hospital. "i feel like especially after reading various articles in the newspaper, there are a lot of people around here who are homeless and have mental health problems. and unfortunately they're not getting the treatment they need." police are saying the perpetrator is a transient and their database showed they had contacted him before. police canvassed the areas he had been known to frequent and arrested 38 year old daniel hall. "the assault and the charge of robbery was raised to the degree it was, there was a weapon that was present during the assault." that weapon was a knife. the victim said he was able to get away with the phone after he threatened to stab was able to identify the male suspect."
