as you just heard... we're seeing triple digits in the forecast for parts of southern oregon... and that means you'll have to take extra precautions when going outside. newswatch 12's cassandra mlynarek is live in medford this morning... she explains the dangers of heat stroke and what to do if you see someone in distress. the biggest danger this time of year is often a child or pet that is left behind in a car. police tell us if you see a child or pet in distress to call police immidiately... as for what happens next.. every situation is different. your first reaction might be to break a window... but it might be a situation where parents or pet owners can be located quickly ... however if you're concerned about the immediate health and safety of a child or pet... police say taking action yourself might be the only option. sometimes breaking a window can lead to a civil lawsuit...but officers will determine if something illegal happened... that's why you need to call for help. there's a lot of awareness for child safety and hot cars... but often times our furry friends get forgotten... workers with petsmart do parking lot checks every half an hour - they look for kids and car to heat up, for a dog to get dehydrated. so you just need to make sure you never leave them in there. no dog is safe, not even for a couple of minutes coming up in our next half hour - why 2018 is on track to be the deadliest year for local fire crews are battling both heat and wildfires...
