president of a local emma says, "the president of this shooting range says 18,19 and 20 year olds all come here for responsible fun and practice and he says he belives if those people can all join the military they shouldn't be told they can't buy a gun when they get home." "when it comes to firearms, safety's first, no such thing as too much safety." phil grammatica says this shooting range sees thousands of people every year. many of them are not 21 years old. and if a new bill were to become law, they might not be able to buy guns everywhere they go. this decided they will no longer sell guns to anyone under the age of 21. you'll remember a southern oregon man has filed lawsuits against those companies because they wouldn't sell him a gun because of his age. the lawsuit claims that goes against oregon law. boli sent this letter to the state legislature explaining how its bill would change the current oregon law. "it would remove age discrimination for gun sales as part of public accomodation law similar to what we have now with tobacco and alcohol." meaning - like tobacco, alcohol and marijuana, you would have to be a certain age to buy a gun. grammatica says there are other options to keep the public safe that don't involve a person's age. "whether it's background checks at a highter level that aren't restricted by age, responsible age, i think might be a better way to go then just blandly say if you're not 21 you can't get a gun." the bureau says it believes there's a public safety interest to allow retailers to limit gun sales to young people. it says it will accept complaints from someone who feels their rights have been violated. in central point, emma balkenbush, newswatch 12.
