walk out: "without continued action this is just going to keep happening. so it's up to us as students, as youth, as american citizens, to stand up and take action." this is phoenix high school senior miranda briscoe taylor- cheek. she helped lead 87 students in a walk out this morning. miranda briscoe taylor-cheek/led walk out: "we really wanted to make sure that students had a voice, and that we had a place where we could stand at least for 17 minutes to be together." for 17 minutes they stood in silence... honoring the 17 taylor-cheek/led walk out: "i'm very proud of my fellow peers for standing up, for educating themselves, and for going out and organizing marches and doing the right thing." this morning miranda and her peers notified the phoenix- talent school district of their plans...which were fully supported by the administration. brent barry/phoenix-talent schools superintendent: "they're trying to process a lot of difficult things that are going on in our world right now. just having that voice and a process to do that is pretty inspiring." the students at talent middle school heard what the high school was planning, and wanted to join in. miranda briscoe taylor-cheek/led walk out: "it's phenomenal to see fellow students standing up and taking action, even at such a young age." brent barry/phoenix-talent schools superintendent: "you know the reality is that it affects all of us, at any says the main goal was to show support for her fellow students dealing with the aftermath of a shooting in parkland florida. miranda briscoe taylor-cheek/led walk out: "i just want them to know that they have allies here. the pacific northwest stands with them. it may not be every citizen up here, but you have friends." the school district says they're anticipating more walk outs as students continue to process what happened in florida. in phoenix, kate houston, newswatch12.
