CORVALLIS, Ore--- Former Hidden Valley standout Sam Vidlak is officially in the stat book as an Oregon State Beaver. Vidlak made his first appearance in the black and orange during the 4th quarter of Oregon State's 42-0 win over Idaho on Saturday.
Chance Nolan was Oregon State's main passer on the day. Nolan connected on 14 of his 19 attempts while throwing for 175 yards and three touchdowns. Nolan also did not commit and interception.
Oregon State completed its first shutout since 2008. It was also the first time the Beavers shut a team out in the opening half since 2016.
"I thought the guys came out with focus and some energy," said head coach Jonathan Smith. "For our defense to play 60 minutes of football and not give up a score is not common in college football now days. Really impressive, the efficiency and balance on the offensive end. It was great that we got a lot of guys in in the 2nd half that have not played as much but have been working really hard."
One of those players was Applegate native Sam Vidlak. The former Mustang is a freshman for Oregon State. He came into the game with Oregon State already up, 42-0.
Vidlak took advantage of his snaps. His first pass of his career was thrown at his former partner in crime at Hidden Valley, Jeremiah Noga. With Oregon State backed up on its own goal line, Vidlak threw a short ball in the flat to Noga. Noga had it bounce off his hands and fall incomplete.
Vidlak would eventually make his first completion and finish the game 2-3 for eight yards. He did escape a sack on a 3rd and 6 late in the 4th. Vidlak fought off a defensive lineman and then put a pass on target while on the run. The Beavers picked up the first down on the pass.
The Beaver running game certainly helped the passing game flow. As a unit, the Beaver rushed for 248 yards. That number is the ninth most in the Jonathan Smith era at Oregon State.
Next week, Oregon State will have a chance to extend its winning streak to three. The Beavers open Pac 12 play with a road game against USC on Saturday. That game will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
