ASHLAND -- At long last, the Southern Oregon University athletics department began moving into their new digs at Lithia Motors Pavilion on Monday. The new arena, which includes offices for athletics, as well as locker rooms and a competition court for indoor sports, cost $24 million to build, $2 million of which was raised through fundraisers.
The other $22 million for the project came from a state bond, essentially an emergency fund.

When combined with the Student Rec Center, which is about two weeks away from being ready for students, the building is 100,000 square feet. The Rec Center portion cost $17.7 million, which was paid for by increased student fees the students voted in favor of in 2012. The building replaces the 60-year-old McNeal Hall. Indoor teams had played their last three seasons at Ashland High School.
