ASHLAND—The McDermott family, Southern Oregon’s connection to Creighton University, is serving the SOU women’s basketball team well on its trip to the Midwest.

The Raiders flew into Omaha, Nebraska on Monday, and on Tuesday will be treated to a practice at CenturyLink Center—the site of home games for the Creighton men’s and women’s basketball teams.

"It's an awesome experience for our freshman, for everyone really,” said junior forward Ariel Augustine. “Just to be able to get that experience and just imagine playing under bigger lights, a bigger arena. It's going to be pretty awesome."

The privilege is thanks to the McDermott family—Greg McDermott, the head men’s coach at Creighton, is the cousin of Brian McDermott, the head men’s coach at SOU.

"Through coach McDermott it's always good to know people in high places,” said SOU head women’s coach Alex Carlson. “Luckily for us we have Brian McDermott to hook us up."

The Raiders open their third straight trip to the NAIA Tournament with six-seed Antelope Valley on Wednesday at 9:15 p.m. CT.
