SIOUX CITY, Iowa--- #5 Southern Oregon Volleyball improved to 2-0 in NAIA Tournament pool play, after a 3-2 (26-28, 25-10, 22-25, 26-24, 15-11) victory over #23 Bellevue, on Wednesday. The win clinches SOU into the 16-team elimination bracket.
Senior right-side hitter Taylor Ristvedt continued her storied career with 25 kills on the match. That set a career high for Ristvedt. Ristvedt also added seven blocks to SOU's 17 total. That was the team's highest block total in 23 national tournament matches this decade.
The team has coined Taylor Ristvedt, Elliot Cook, and Makayla Hoyt as it's "Big Three." Cook was involved in 10 of SOU's blocks.
Hoyt had 11 kills on 22 swings. Hoyt finished with zero errors on the match. That is the first time a Raider has had 10 or more kills with no errors during this season.
Head Coach Josh Rohlfing spoke to NewsWatch 12 on the phone about the three star players.
"You know those three have kind of, we have called them our big three all year. They just continue to raise their level as we progress through this whatever it is, 16-match streak we have got rolling here. They just consistently have gotten better. They don't mind carrying the weight. It allows the rest of our team to really feel comfortable." Rohlfing said.
SOU has now won 16 consecutive matches. That is the longest streak for the Raiders since 2011.
The Raiders can earn the top seed out of Pool E by beating #12 Central Methodist. That match will be played on Thursday, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.
