ASHLAND -- Southern Oregon University has known it will host an NAIA softball regional and as on Tuesday afternoon, they found out the three teams they will have to go through to make it back to the NAIA 10-team tournament they played in a season ago.
As the host, SOU is the No. 1 seed in the regional. The No. 4 seed, who the Raiders will play first, is Simpson (CA), who compared to the other two teams, is right down the road in Redding, CA. The Raiders have dominated the Red Hawks, winning all three meetings between the teams this season and five in a row dating back to 2016.
The No. 2 seed in the regional is St. Franics (IL). The Fighting Saints went 37-8 overall and 21-1 in CCAC, winning the conference for the second straight year. They are red-hot, winners of 22 of their last 23 games. They are ranked No. 15 in the country.
The No. 3 seed in the regional is Northwestern College (IA). The Red Raiders went 35-11 overall with a 15-5 conference record. They were among teams receiving votes in the final NAIA poll released Tuesday.
SOU's opening game against Simpson is at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 14.
