MEDFORD—The top two teams in the Cascade Conference have both earned No. 1 seeds in the NAIA Softball Tournament—Southern Oregon the top seed in the Southern Oregon bracket; Oregon Tech the top seed in the Indiana Wesleyan bracket.
Tuesday’s announcement didn’t come as much as a surprise to SOU. As both the regular season and tournament conference champs, the only question was which other three teams would be joining the Raiders at U.S. Cellular Fields in Medford.
Their four-team, double-elimination tournament will have a west coast flair to it, as the Raiders will take on 4-seed Marymount (CA) in their first game at 1:30 p.m. on May 13, and are also joined by 2-seed Hope International (CA).
It will be the first ever meeting between SOU and Marymount—a program in just its fourth year of existence. The Raiders were 2-0 against Hope International in 2019.
Three-seed Taylor (Ind.) rounds out the group, and SOU will be looking to advance to the NAIA World Series for the third year in a row.
Oregon Tech, meanwhile, will square off against 4-seed Siena Heights (Mich.) at 10:30 a.m. on May 13.
The Owls did not submit a bid to host an Opening Round series.
Corban and College of Idaho were slotted as No. 3 seeds in the tournament, and the CCC is the only conference in the country to send four teams.
One team advances out of each of the ten regions, and that will make up the 10-team NAIA World Series held in Springfield, MO, May 24 through May 30.
