MEDFORD, Ore. — Football season may be right around the corner, but today was about the Southern Oregon community. Football and softball players from Southern Oregon University helped the Compassion Highway Project at Hawthorne Park Sunday afternoon.

In addition to serving food and interacting with the community, some athletes helped clean up Hawthorne Park.

"Seeing all the smiling faces and everybody helping out it's a good sight to see," said Michael Chisley, a defensive back at SOU.

Players said that giving back to the community is a big part of Raider athletics core values. They want to give back to the community that supports them at all their athletic events.

The Compassion Highway Project works to "strengthen Southern Oregon’s humanitarian needs, through our passionate volunteer network," according to their website. To find out more about CHP and how you can help, visit their website at www.compassionhighwayproject.org.
