SIOUX CITY, Iowa- SOU Volleyball opened the NAIA Championships pool-play with a win over Indiana Kokomo, (21-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-15) on Tuesday.
It was evident that SOU had not been on the floor in 16 days when the match got started. SOU dropped the first set of the match, 21-25. The second set was also close, finishing 25-22. However, the Raiders were the favored team in that set.
In the final two sets of the match, the Raiders got rid of the rust. SOU cruised to two 25-15 set wins.
The win improved SOU's win total to 30 on the year. This is the first time that SOU has had back-to-back 30 win seasons since 1991-92.
The Raiders used their stars to shake the rust off. Taylor Ristvedt came away with 15 kills, while Elliot Cook added 10. Cook also dominated the net with six blocks. Makayla Hoyt was able to come away with 10 kills on 19 swings.
The Raiders can clinch their way into the 16-team elimination bracket with a win over Bellevue on Wednesday at 8 a.m. The Raiders will also need Central Methodist to beat IU Kokomo to clinch the spot.
