ASHLAND, Ore--- The SOU Raiders Volleyball team won two matches in style, to open to the 2019 Raider Invitational in Ashland.
The Raiders won the first match with ease. SOU defeated William Jessup in four sets (25-23, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20).
The Raiders fell behind early in the first set, but stormed back to win, 25-23.
Comeback was the word of the day. SOU slipped behind by two sets to open up against #18 Vanguard. SOU fought tooth and nail to comeback in the second set. At one point, the Raiders sparked a 4-0 run that locked the set up at 23. After trading points, Vanguard won the set 29-27.
Winning that set put Vanguard up 2-0.
That is when SOU came alive. SOU went on to win three consecutive sets. The Raiders knocked off Vanguard, 3-2 (21-25, 27-29, 25-22, 25-20, 15-13).
The third and final set was a thriller. SOU taking the set victory 15-13.
Taylor Ristvedt was at it again for SOU, in the second match. She came away with 16 kills, which led the team.
Right behind Ristvedt, was Makayla Hoyt. Hoyt managed to connect on 13 kills, while hitting .265.
SOU will be back at it on Saturday, when they take on Lewis-Clark State, at 2 p.m. Then they will play #20 Jamestown at 7 p.m. Both matches will be at the Lithia Motors Pavillion.
