WILSONVILLE, Ore--- The OSAA is moving fall high school sports to March because of the coronavirus pandemic. That is according to a new sports calendar released by the OSAA on Wednesday.
The OSAA will take a four-season approach to high school athletics in the 2020-21 year.
Each season will include two practice weeks and seven competition weeks.
Listed below is what every sports season will look like according to the OSAA.
Season 1 (August 31-December 27):
- Sports/Activities permitted will not be designated by the OSAA but rather will be at the discretion of the local school district, provided they are allowed the Governor's Office, OHA, ODE, and the school adheres to the directives from those entities.
- OSAA policies regarding out-of-season coaching limitations have been waived during season 1 with the caveat that student participation in these sports cannot be required. All other OSAA rules and policies remain in effect at this time.
Season 2 (December 28-March 6)
- Basketball
- Wresting
- Swimming
Season 3 (February 22-May 1, 8)
- Football
- Soccer
- Volleyball
- Cross Country
Season 4 (April 19-June 26)
- Baseball
- Softball
- Track and Field
- Tennis
- Golf
Activity Seasons: OSAA Activities, including cheerleading, dance/drill, speech and music, are not traditionally defined by a single season. This is due to their direct tie to school curriculum or their dual role as both a support and competitive activity. Therefore, these activities have culminating events that fall within certain seasons but are not assigned to one designated season.
- Cheerleading- First Practice: 08/31/2020 Qualifying Date: 03/07/2021 Culminating Week: 03/8-13 2021
- Dance and Drill- First Practice: 08/31/2020 Qualifying Date: 04/11/2021 Culminating Week: 04/12-18 2021
- Speech- First Practice: 08/31/2020 Qualifying Date: 04/18/2021 Culminating Week: 04/19-25 2021
- Solo Music- First Practice: 08/31/2020 Qualifying Date: 04/25/2021 Culminating Week: 04/26-05/2 2021
- Choir- First Practice: 08/31/2020 Qualifying Date: 05/02/2021 Culminating Week: 05/3-9 2021
- Band- First Practice: 08/31/2020 Qualifying Date: 05/09/2021 Culminating Week: 05/10-16 2021
- Orchestra- First Practice: 08/31/2020 Qualifying Date: 05/09/2021 Culminating Week: 05/10-16 2021
