KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced on Thursday that it has cancelled all remaining winter championship events, including those already underway.

"The health and safety of our student-athletes, as well as all involved in our championship events, is the NAIA’s highest priority," the organization said in a brief statement. "We will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments and NAIA leadership will work closely with our member institutions to determine the best path forward for future NAIA events, including all spring 2020 championships."

The Southern Oregon University men's basketball team had been scheduled to play Holy Cross (Ind.) in Friday's Round of 16 at the NAIA Division II Championships after winning its first-round game Wednesday in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Raider women's wrestling team is in Jamestown, N.D., for the NAIA Invitational Tournament, which had been scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday.

Instead, both teams will be returning to Ashland without competing further.

The NAIA had announced Wednesday night that it would limit events to essential staff members and the immediate family of athletes, but decided to take further precautions.

The Raider men's basketball team finished with a 24-7 record, advancing to the Round of 16 for the fourth time in team history. The women's wrestling team was ranked No. 3 in the final NAIA coaches' poll.

Meanwhile, after announcing that it would keep fans out of the arenas for the OSAA basketball tournament games, the OSAA likewise decided to cancel all remaining games.

"After consulting with schools and venue partners, the OSAA is canceling all remaining Winter State Championships; more information to follow," the organization said.
