ASHLAND, Ore--- Both of the local softball teams came out of Friday's opening games of the CCC Tournament without a loss. No. 3 seed Oregon Tech came away with a 7-3 win over No. 2 seed College of Idaho.
Tech ace Sarah Abramson came out and started again after a no hitter in the Owls' first win of the day over Warner Pacific. Abramson threw five innings and allowed three runs against the Yotes.
Freshmen McKenzie Staub made her first post-season appearance in the final two innings. She only allowed one hit and struck a hitter out.
The College of Idaho started the scoring out in the top of the 1st with a Christensen RBI-double.
Oregon Tech evened the score and took the lead in bottom of the 1st.
The two would trade punches through the top of the 4th. At that point, the game was tied at three runs apiece.
Then, Oregon Tech's bats came to life. Buckholz doubled to right center and brought Klum in. Then, Nunes doubled and brought Buckholz and Jantzi in. OIT took a 6-3 lead.
In the bottom of the 6th, Jantzi added some insurance with a single to left that brought Businger in.
The victory for Oregon Tech ensures that it plays No. 1 Southern Oregon on Saturday at 2 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the championship round on Sunday. Because it is a double-elimination tournament, the loser can still advance to the championship round by winning the following game.
