MEDFORD—Nate Mayben has been hired as Cascade Christian High School’s newest athletic director.
Currently at McLoughlin Middle School and also the head coach of the Medford Mustangs, Mayben will take over at Cascade Christian for Danny Miles, who will transition back into a part-time athletic advisory position to coaches and students, per the school.
Miles accepted the head athletic director position back in October, after serving as the school’s assistant AD since April of 2016.
"Any time they want to get a real full-time person in, I could leave tomorrow," Miles told NewsWatch 12 at the time of his mini-promotion last year.
The hiring of Mayben will allow Miles to occupy the role he originally envisioned with the Challengers--a semi-retired mentorship position, helping student-athletes in their pursuit of athletic and academic scholarships.
"The best way to be associated with young people is in the situation I'm in now rather than sitting at home or being retired," Miles said.
The move for Mayben is a return to Cascade Christian, as he coached the Challengers baseball team in 2014 and 2015. It also allows him to join his father, Mike Mayben Sr., in the Grace Cascade Christian Schools. Mayben Sr. is the head football coach at Cascade Christian Middle School. Nate is also the brother of former North Medford head softball coach Mike Mayben, who has a daughter at Cascade Christian.
Mayben will also continue with his role in coaching the Mustangs, a group which is coming off its fourth state championship in 2017. The team’s home opener is Tuesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at Harry and David Field.
