MEDFORD—The Medford Mustangs and Grants Pass Nuggets battled to a doubleheader split, as league play for Area-4’s American Legion teams began Monday night.
Behind three hits from North Medford's Taven Passey, the Mustangs took game one 5-4.
The Nuggets answered with a 6-5 win in game two to salvage a split.
All three games between the two teams this season have been decided by one run.
After five hours of baseball Monday night, which was preceded by four games in four days, Medford will turn around for another doubleheader on Tuesday against Roseburg.
"They don't have the wins that probably their roster can produce," head coach Nate Maybe said about the Doc Stewarts. "They're a good ball club. They're going to be disciplined, they're going to be tough to beat. They're one of those teams that at the end of the year, you're going to see at the top."
For the Nuggets, they too had four games in four days before Monday’s doubleheader. They’ll play six more before the week is finished.
