Dylan Wu ready to represent Medford on the PGA Tour

With his first Korn Ferry Tour win on Sunday, Medford-native Dylan Wu secured his PGA Tour card, allowing him to play in PGA Tour events starting this fall.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- When the final putt of his 27-under-par weekend rolled to the bottom of the cup, Dylan Wu realized a nearly 15-year dream had been reached: he was going to play at the highest level of professional golf. The win on Sunday at the Price Cutter Charity Championship solidified his place as one of 25 golfers to earn PGA Tour cards.

"Today most feels better," Wu told NewsWatch 12 Sports on Tuesday after his win. "I'm just realizing more and more that I'm going to be playing on the PGA Tour, not just any one event, but I'll have a whole year out there."

The Tour Card gives Wu the privilege to play any PGA TOUR event he qualifies for. It gives him more opportunities to play at the highest level of professional golf, with the chance to play for bigger purses.

It's been a long time coming for Wu, who started the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour season hot before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With just a few weeks left in this year's "super season," Wu won his first Korn Ferry Tour event. The win catapulted the Medford native from 31st in points to 14th and guaranteed him a spot in the top 25. The dream of becoming a true professional golfer was finally coming true.

"I mean probably 11, 12 years old is when I really started loving golf even more and knowing I was playing at a higher level," Wu said."I wanted to play college golf. I wanted to play professional golf, always wanting to play on the PGA Tour."

The win on Sunday was made even more special because of who was there with him. His fiancée, Margaret, watched nervously all weekend as her future husband played some of the best golf he's played on the Korn Ferry Tour. In addition, Wu's caddy was his brother Jeremey.

"Just to have my family there too on the bag and then have my fiancée there. Just a super special moment," Wu said.

And, Wu joked, all the first-place prize money is going to the Wu's.

"The paycheck stays in the family."

There are still about five weeks left of Korn Ferry Tour events. Wu said he plans to in four of the five, but he hasn't decided which five he'll play in. He hopes to earn more points to move up in the top 25 to move up the priority list for PGA Tour events this fall. No matter what, Wu looks forward to making southern Oregon proud when he tees it up in his first PGA Tour event sometime this fall.

"I know there's a lot of people are rooting for me back home," Wu said. "[I'm going] to stay humble and just keep on trying to get better and kind of just know where I'm from and represent it."

This week, however, Wu has an off week and he will be taking full advantage of it. He'll travel with his fiancée to Napa to enjoy some time away from golf and tour the beautiful California wine country.

"Now [the wine's] going to taste a lot better."
