EUGENE -- Pedro Chavarin Jr., the driver in the crash that killed former Oregon linebacker Fotu Leiato, was charged with first-degree manslaughter today, according to the Eugene Police Department.

His arrest at 4 p.m. Tuesday comes after EPD's Major Collision Investigation team and the Lane County Medical Examiner concluded their investigation.

If convicted, the minimum prison sentence for first-degree manslaughter in Oregon is 10 years.

Chavarin Jr. was cited for suspicion of DUII at the scene of the crash early Friday morning, but Leiato's body had not yet been recovered. His body was discovered by a passerby hours later in nearby brush. Although his body was found outside the vehicle, police say they believe Leiato was in the car when it rolled over Friday morning.
