Roundball Wrap: Crater Pads State Contender Case with Road Win Over Thurston

Crater beat Thurston 47-45 on the road Thursday, solidifying their spot among the 5A elite.

SPRINGFIELD -- The Crater boys basketball team had already impressed entering Thursday's match up on the road against Thurston by starting the season 14-1. With a 47-45 win over the No. 2 ranked Colts, the No. 3 ranked Comets said one thing loud and clear: they are legitimate state title contenders.

Trailing for much of the first half, the Comets stormed back in the second and held the Colts off in the final minutes. Kiefer Edwards had another highlight reel dunk, scoring 20 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Other notable stats: 

Jayden Vranes - 9 points, 6 assists
Nathan Bittle - 9 points, 6 rebounds, 5 blocks
Mason Vranes - 5 points, 4 rebounds

Crater improves to 15-1 on the season and jumped Thurston in the updated OSAA 5A rankings. Ahead of them now is Silverton, who is 13-1.
