COOS BAY, Ore. — The Cascade Christian boys lost the state championship game to Oregon Episcopal, 35-33.
It was a low-scoring, back and forth game that got ugly at times. But, at the same time, people couldn't take their eyes off of the game.
Only 30 points were scored between the two teams at halftime, with the Aardvarks hitting a two-point bucket as time expired to take a 16 to 14 lead into the locker room.
The lead changed four times in the game and was tied four more times. The Challengers came out fired up and put up the first double-digit point quarter of either team in the game up until that point. They outscored OES 13 to 9.
Cascade Christian pushed their lead to five with less than five minutes to play, their largest of the night. But then the Aardvarks chipped away before taking the lead with 37 seconds left to play. It wasn't enough time for the Challengers, falling just short of a 3A State Title.
Cascade Christian and Oregon Episcopal were both cinderella story type teams. Both of them respectively knocked off the one and two seeds in the tournament.
Matt McPheeters was named the Challengers' player of the game, scoring 10 points in 26 minutes while grabbing a pair of rebounds.
