MEDFORD -- If you're in it for the views, Centennial Golf Club is the place for you. If you're in it for the challenge, well, you're still in the right place.
This week's Golf Tip of the Week comes from Centennial Golf Club in south Medford, where you are sure to enjoy the scenery, but will face a tough test on the course.
The clubhouse golf pro, Vince Domenzain says hole 13 tends to make or break golfers' scores at this course. It is a par 3 just enticing enough to make you want to drive onto the green. Miss in any direction, though, and you're into sand traps.
"You can drive the hole, but if you're a little bit off, there's always some trouble," Domenzain said.
He said long hitters can hit a 3-iron or similar club off the tee, but you can also use a driver if you're trying to hit the green. The smarter play?
"Hit maybe a 5-wood or a 3-4-5 iron and then you have more of a 100 or 120-yard shot onto the green," Domenzain said.
Domenzain explained this is the safer play, because then you can take a full swing from the fairway and expect to land it onto the green with your second shot.
So, if you're playing well through 12 holes, you have a decision to make: try to drive the hole and keep the hot streak going, or play it safe and play for par. Whatever you decide, Domenzain has you covered in this week's Golf Tip of the Week.
