MEDFORD—Checking in with a more veteran roster in 2018, St. Mary’s looks the part of a contender.
The Crusaders lost only four to graduation and three of last year’s captains in running back Gavin Rajagopal, linebacker Jake Reynolds and lineman Aidan Young are now all seniors.
At the same time, they’ve entered a much deeper conference—a 12-team powerhouse league that features two former 4A teams and perennial powers Santiam Christian and Harrisburg to go along with defending state champs Cascade Christian.
"This new league is absolutely going to pose a new challenge for us,” head coach Jamie Young said. “Our kids are excited about it, our coaches are excited about it. We're going to be one of the smaller teams in both number and size and that's ok. That doesn't bother us at all. We want to go out and show people we've been playing some good football here and we want to continue to do that."
