ASHLAND -- More than half the 10 weight classes between (11) Southern Oregon and Simpson College were left open as the Red Hawks forfeit four weight classes and two weight classes were left open by each team. The Raiders capitalized and won, 41-3.

In their final meet of the regular season, 165-pounder Tanner Canady and heavyweight Zane Wardwell both earned pins. It is the second time in three matches that Canady has won by pin.

At the 149-pound class, Scottie Stockman dominated, earning a fall, beating Ben Gacayan, 16-0. Simpson's only win came at the 174-pound class when Robert Mello beat Angelo Goumenidis by minor decision, 1-0.

This was the Raiders' final tune up before the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament Saturday, February 17, which SOU is hosting for the first time. Several Raiders have a shot at a conference title as four of their wrestlers are ranked in the top 7 nationally, three of them ranked in the top 4.

SOU's Nationally ranked wrestlers:

141 - Devin Poppen: ranked 4th in the nation
149 - Chandler Michael: ranked 7th in the nation
157 - Hunter Hodges: ranked 3rd in the nation
197 - Tanner Fischer: ranked 3rd in the nation

Depending on the results of the CCC tournament, select wrestlers may qualify to reach the NAIA national wrestling tournament held in Des Moines, Iowa on March 2 & 3.
