MEDFORD, Ore.-- The Medford Police Department (MPD) said an officer tried to stop a white 2004 Mercedes for driving without headlights on McAndrews Road just before one Friday morning. The driver didn't stop, causing a chase throughout the city.
The driver was later identified as Amanda Hawkins. Over the course of the chase, officer said they used spike strips twice. That flattened all of the tires but that didn't stop Hawkins. It just made her drive slower. Officers used the PIT maneuver and got the car to stop on Brookdale Avenue. The whole chase lasted about 20 minutes.
Police believe Hawkins was driving under the influence of a controlled substance. She is currently in the Jackson County jail facing DUII, eluding, and other charges including probation violation for possession of meth.
