Wet weather leads to two crashes and serious injuries on I-5 in Josephine County

Two people are badly hurt and another is uninjured after two different single car crashes on I-5 in Josephine County.

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. - Within a few minutes of each other, two crashes occurred on Interstate 5 in Northern Josephine County, when heavy rains fell this morning. Both crash locations are notorious for catching motorists off-guard as they try to negotiate the slanting curves at highway speeds. Rural Metro Fires's Battalion 5 and three engine companies, along with two ambulances from AMR, OSP and ODOT, worked both of these scenes simultaneously.

The single vehicle rollover at milepost 73 southbound sent two occupants to the hospital with serious injuries. They weren't wearing seatbelts, according to first responders. The vehicle was off the roadway and did not pose an additional traffic issue.

The single vehicle crash at milepost 68 southbound spun-out and hit the center divider. The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, got out of the car and was able to get to a safe location to be evaluated, and later determined uninjured. OSP was able to control traffic until Caveman Towing pulled the vehicle out of the road.

Josephine County authorities are reminding everyone to drive cautiously in trecherous areas during heavy rains and they're emphasizing the importance of wearing seatbelts.
